West Ham to meet Roma's asking price for Seydou Doumbia - on one condition

West Ham are reportedly pressing ahead with the idea of signing Seydou Doumbia.

Olly Dawes

According to Tutto Mercato Web, West Ham United are willing to pay Roma's €20m (£14m) asking price for striker Seydou Doumbia, if they can sell players to raise funds first.

The Hammers did add Nikica Jelavic to their striking options over the summer, but with Enner Valencia suffering a number of injury problems, manager Slaven Bilic may look to add another pacey option to his frontline.

Reports from Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web suggest that the Hammers are keen to sign Seydou Doumbia from Roma, potentially in the January transfer window.

It's stated that Roma want to sell Doumbia for €20m (£14m), and West Ham are willing to pay that fee - but only if they can sell some players in January to raise funds for the deal.

The 27-year-old hitman is currently on loan at former club CSKA Moscow for the season, but Roma may look to recall him in January in order to sell him on, just one year after initially leaving CSKA to join Roma.

The Ivorian will be familiar to Bilic, as he played for CSKA whilst Bilic managed rivals Lokomotiv Moscow, and his exploits in Russia - 84 goals in 129 games - made him one of the most dangerous players in Europe.

His move to Roma hasn't worked out, but Doumbia's deadly pace makes him an attractive option for West Ham, and Bilic may now look to shift some fringe players to push through a deal.

The likes of James Collins, Joey O'Brien and Mauro Zarate are potential candidates for the exit, whilst Goal recently suggested that Andy Carroll could be a target for Sunderland - which would free up an attacking spot for Doumbia.
